What does this software do? | Spyware Doctor scans your computer and hunts down any spyware that might be infecting it. First impressions | Spyware Doctor is very easy to install. Once I'd got the software on my system, the next job was to update the software, which was also very quick and easy to do. Getting into my first scan was the next step and this didn't take any effort at all. A couple of clicks and it was off and running. First impressions are good: a clean interface that's easy to update and operate. |

Real time protection | Spyware Doctor offers ongoing protection from spyware with a section of the panel called OnGuard. Although this is all done automatically, you can alter settings here if you want to. The OnGuard system offers spyware protection in the form of: Browser Guard, Cookie Guard, File Guard, Immunizer Guard, Keylogger Guard, Network Guard, Process Guard and a startup Guard. A good, solid array of protection here in all the areas that you need it. |

Product updates |
Spyware Doctor offers regular updates for it's software. The only issue I had was that when the software started, it didn't check for updates. You had to manually click on Smart Update in order to start the check. It would be better if it notified me automatically when updates were available. You can alter this in the settings but I couldn't get the tool to notify me of new updates. I had to check manually each time.

Customer Support | PC Tools offer support for Spyware Doctor in the form of a toll free US number you can call as well as the usual email support. I had a few questions I needed answering that I couldn't find on their website. So I emailed them and within 24 hours got a very long, thorough email. The support level is fast, friendly and really good. |

What I liked | Very ease to use
As with the other titles in the PC Tools range, Spyware Doctor is very easy to use. It's highly unlikely you'll need to open a single help file here. Most users will be more than happy to let the software automatically protect them from spyware. Meaning all you'll have to do is to click on 'Start Scan' and keep the tool up to date. Learn more about this threat links are great If you'd like to find out more about the errors this tool finds, each one is explained via a simple link to their website. And these details are in plain enough English that I could understand what they were talking about. Threat level meter makes it easy to see how severe infections are After scanning, you'll see a simple graphic for each problem found that tells you whether a threat is low, to high. Minor problems will show a low threat, such as advertising and pop-ups. More serious problems, like keyloggers are highlighted in red and should be dealt with urgently. |

Loud alarm noise - a bit over the top
I nearly jumped out of my seat when the scan had completed. There was a huge, arcade game like horn sound to let me know it was finished scanning. I should say this is only a minor point as it can be turned off in the settings. |

The verdict | Spyware Doctor is deserving of the praise and awards it's been receiving. It's not just hype. Having reviewed many different spyware tools, it's very easy to recommend Spyware Doctor as the best of the bunch. If you've read my other reviews, you'll know I've been severely disappointed by the majority of anti-spyware software available. Spyware Doctor is in a league of it's own. The level of realtime protection and the scanning / removal engine here is incredible. This is easily the best tool currently available. I can't recommend it highly enough. |
